The Water Pollution Control Department gave a Stormwater presentation to the kids involved in the Summer Parks and Recreation Program at Landry Park On August 8th. In all, over 30 kids and councilors participated. A general discussion on Stormwater was given, followed by a video from the Lake Champlain Committee called Clean Streets Clean Streams.

Afterwards, the older kids helped stencil Storm Drains in the area around Landry Park. The message was “NO DUMPING DRAINS TO RIVER” and the symbol of a fish was also on the stencil. This is a public awareness project done to remind people that only rain should go down the storm drains, and nothing should be dumped in them such as trash, household and automotive fluids, pet waste & yard waste.

The kids learned that rain running off the streets goes through the Storm Drains and directly into our rivers, brooks and into Lake Champlain. After Stenciling, handouts were distributed to the kids. They received Bookmarkers, cool stickers made by kids and a stormwater crossword puzzle.
